“The color, the visual composition and the way of telling a story are her work main focus, and is what moves her to projects and collabs. She has been also collaborating with studios and individual artists as a freelancer.”

Hello ︎

My name is Mafalda!

I graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts - University of Lisbon in 2014, with a bachelor’s degree in Equipment Design. During that time, I was also an exchange student under the Erasmus program at the Nuova Accademia di Belli Arti in Milan. Afterwards, I pursued a master’s degree in Product Design at Esad.Cr (School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha), which was completed in 2017. Further into my studies, I enrolled on a postgraduate program in Art Curation at the NOVA University – FCSH.

Design comes in as the foundation of an artistic direction involving composition and the relationship with space, where the creation of objects starts. The experience I intend to express is then translated into a three-dimensional action, through a language of colour, form, and narrative, helping me to bring something playful and unexpected to the projects. The main idea is the experience between the
space - object - human.

Currently my work is focused on art direction projects, set design, scenography, object creation and artistic installations. Integrating various working contexts. The use of colour, visual composition, textiles, and photography are also structural languages in my work.
It´s very important to me that my artworks and projects are created re-using materials. Sometimes even from a past project to another.

Since 2018 I have collaborated also with architecture and design studios as a designer, having also worked in production, contributing to the execution and creation of exhibitions/festivals, among other artistic projects.

In 2020 together with a partner, we founded an artistic shared studio and co-work. Nowadays we are almost 20 people together creating an artistic community of freelancers in one studio in Graça - Lisbon. The name is Aberta Studio and this is where you can find me.
